Starting The Year Right at Work

The holidays are over and the festive season has come to an end. You seem to still have that holiday hangover that started in mid-December last year. Some people may find it anticlimactic to be celebrating the week before and then simply go about doing your work the week after.

Even though you still have to contend with the weather and the different things that you’ve put off for the start of this year, it is possible to face January in the workplace with as less stress as possible. It’s all about fixing your environment and getting motivated enough to start the year right.

Unless you work for a creative media company which actually thrives on have things messy, you will understand that the way the working environment is arranged has a huge impact on those people who work in it. A well-designed and neatly arranged office environment can really stimulate staff as well as boost employee performance as well as reduce absenteeism.

If you have time, clear your desk. It’s best to look out for the things that you don’t really need to be there. If you’re able to start off fresh during the New Year, then it will be easier for you to get yourself into work mode after the holidays.

You may not be able to keep your desk from being absolutely clutter-free the entire year but it would be great if you were able to lessen the Post-It notes as well as the piles and piles of paperwork that you keep putting off every time. Try to get into the habit of clearing your desk each day. It will help you clear your mind and eventually it will help you de-stress.

Another thing that you might want to try in order to add color to your workplace so that you’ll be able to add energy in your surroundings. One of the best colors that is known to energize people is the color red. Blue acts as a calming influence.

The color green is an anti-irritant. Orange is said to inspire creativity and yellow draws out motivation from people. Try adding something different and colorful to your desk so that you will be able to thrive off the energy and the feeling that it gives you.

These are just a couple of suggestions but they are guaranteed to change the way you behave at work. The less-cluttered and the more vibrant your surroundings are, the more you will get to accomplish at the beginning of the year.
